After breezing through two matches to reach the final on Friday, Svistun picked up right where she had left off, handling Masiyazi, 6-2, 6-1.

Friday marked the third career tournament title for Svistun, as she won her bracket at both the Deacon Classic and Kitty Harrison Invitational last fall. After leading KU with 25 singles wins last season, Svistun is off to another hot start, notching six singles wins in just two fall events.

In other singles action on Saturday, freshman Mymee Tokuda picked up her first collegiate win by defeating KansasState’s Pauline Guemas, 6-2, 7-5, in a round-robin contest.

Doubles play began on Saturday as well, where KU’s tandem of junior Kunigunda Dorn and freshman Maria Martinez lost each of its matches in the main draw. In round-robin doubles action, Svistun and Tokuda teamed up to go 1-1, which included a win over Kansas State’s Vieira and Kudlockova, 9-8 (2).

The Classic will pick back up on Sunday with the conclusion of doubles play. Svistun and Tokuda are scheduled to compete in two more round-robin doubles matchups.
