Jayhawks Sit in Eighth Place after Day One in Lubbock

LUBBOCK,Texas – Emily Powers’ seven-over-par score of 153 led the Kansas women’s golf team to an eighth place finish after day one at the McHaney/Morehead Invitational Monday. The Jayhawks head into Tuesday’s final round 22 strokes behind field-leading Baylor after the team shot a two-round total of 629 at the par 73, 6,525 yard Rawls Course.

Powers, a junior from Quincy, Ill., opened the day by firing a one-over-par 74 in round one. In round two she shot a 79 to end the day in a tie for twelfth with a score of 153.

Sophomore Jennifer Clark finished the day in a tie for 27th after shooting a two-round total 158. Rounding out the lineup for the Jayhawks were sophomores Grace Thiry (160, T37) and Meghna Bal (161, T45) and freshman Kalynd Carson (164, T60).

Baylor leads host Texas Tech by three strokes entering the final round after the Bears shot a two-round total 607. The 13-team field includes seven Big 12 schools.
