Kanas Golf Places 10th at Johnie Imes Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. –
Kansas women’s golf notched its third top-10 finish this year as it placed 10th at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo., Tuesday. The tournament concluded round two Tuesday morning, after being suspended due to darkness Monday night. Round three finished as scheduled Tuesday afternoon.
The Jayhawks were able to move up to 10th place after shooting a strong third round score of 303 to finish with 935 – one stroke out of ninth place, which was taken by Missouri State. The University of Wisconsin (908) edged out Tulsa (912), which led through rounds one and two, to take first place. Host-school Missouri (913) concluded the tournament in third place.
Senior Emily Powers led the team tying for 24th after carding a 231. This marked the third time this season that Powers led the team in scoring. Meghan Gockel and Grace Thiry both tied for 38th with 235, while Meghna Bal tied for 45th and Jennifer Clark rounded out the Jayhawk lineup tied for 67th at 244.
Bal made the biggest jump in the standings, moving from her second round standing of tied for 69th. Bal shot a second round of 77 and fired a team-best 74 in the final round.
The Jayhawks will return to action when they compete in NMSU Price’s Give `Em Five Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 12-14.
