Dorn, who two weeks ago narrowly missed winning her bracket at KU’s first event of the season, the Deacon Classic, defeated Georgia’s Darya Ivanova, 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (7), to earn the flight B title on Saturday.

Avdeeva, one day after making her first appearance of the fall season, toppled MississippiState’s Renee Joseph, 7-6, 6-4, to take win the consolation draw of the flight A bracket.

The doubles draw of the Classic got underway on Saturday as well, and after each of KU’s tandems dropped their first-round match and then won their first consolation contest, a modification to the bracket has pitted the Jayhawks’ duos of Dorn and sophomore Yuliana Svistun against Avdeeva and sophomore Edina Horvath in Sunday’s backdraw semifinals.

Kansas rounded out its play on Saturday in extra singles matches, where junior Stephanie Smith beat MurrayState’s Lyndsay Ottosen and Horvath fell to Notre Dame’s Cosmina Ciobanu.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the completion of doubles play.
