“We had a real disappointing day today,” said head coach Kit Grove. “We have to find a way to minimize our mistakes and take better advantages of the par-fives.”

Pederson’s first-round 69 marks his first round of par or better on the season. Pederson followed that up with a second-round score of 76 to finish the day tied for 31st.

“I was very happy with Zach’s play today in the morning, you can’t ask for anything more than he gave us,” said Grove.

Hopfinger, a native of Lake Forest, Ill., rebounded from an opening-round 80 to fire a second-round score of 70. Hopfinger in his homecoming to his native Chicago area stands in a tie for 52nd after day one.

“Brad struggled in the morning, but I was very impressed with how he bounced back from a rough round and performed so well in the afternoon especially in your hometown where you want to play well,” said Grove.

Junior Walt Koelbel shot a first-day total of 151 to finish the day tied for 56th. Freshman Nate Barbee shot rounds of 75 and 78 to finish day one tied for 58th. Junior Andrew Storm carded a 159 to finish the first-day in 67th.
