Sayers to lead Homecoming Parade Saturday; band will practice early in Memorial Stadium.

Oct. 8, 2009

The pinnacle of KU’s Homecoming Week 2009 will come this Saturday morning with tailgating, the traditional parade down Jayhawk Boulevard and the return of a legendary Jayhawk.

Former KU football star Gale Sayers will serve as Grand Marshal of this year’s Homecoming parade, which will begin at 9 a.m.

Prior to KU football’s 11:30 a.m. kickoff against Iowa State, fans can tailgate and stop by a Pancake Feed on the front lawn of Stauffer-Flint lawn from 9-11 a.m.

Due to the early game time the KU Marching Jayhawks will begin practicing for the day’s events at 7 a.m. in Memorial Stadium. Alumni members of the KU Band will once again be featured in a halftime performance.

Sayers recently returned to Kansas Athletics as Director of Fundraising for Special Projects this fall. Sayers’ era of KU football – the 1960’s – also ties into this year’s Homecoming theme: Peace. Love. Jayhawks.
