Kansas Rowing Travels to Kansas State for Sunflower Showdown

Oct. 8, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan.—Kansas rowing looks to avenge last year’s Kansas Cup loss this weekend as the Jayhawks travel to Manhattan, Kan., for the Sunflower Showdown with Kansas State. Last season’s Sunflower Showdown was cancelled due to high winds in Manhattan.

Kansas last won the Sunflower Showdown in November of 2006 with a 14-11 victory at Tuttle Creek Lake in Manhattan. That win was the second straight Sunflower Showdown victory for the Jayhawks.

With last season’s Sunflower Showdown cancelled, the only meeting between the two teams came in the spring at the Kansas Cup. The Wildcats grabbed a victory in the final race of the day to win 12-8.

Kansas will continue the fall season on Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Frostbite Regatta in Wichita, Kan.
