Softball Adds Two to 2010 Roster

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Head Kansas softball coach Megan Smith announced the addition of two new players to the 2010 roster in freshmen walk-ons Julie Jenkins and Marissa Olson.

Jenkins comes from Mount Olive High School in Mount Olive, N.J. She was named all-area player of the year, team captain and team MVP in 2009, while helping MOHS to a conference championship. She was also a member of Mount Olive’s state championship team in 2008. A three-time first team all-conference, first team all-area and first team all-county selection, Jenkins also lettered in swimming, tennis and soccer. A standout in the classroom as well, she was selected to the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, World Language Honor Society and also won her school’s Outstanding Athlete Award during her high school career.

Olson also comes from a decorated high school career in which she helped lead Waukee High School to a runner-up finish at state in 2009. The Des Moines, Iowa native was an all-conference honorable mention honoree in 2009 and 2007, while earning all-conference second team accolades as a junior in 2008. She was also a member of the Warriors team that won the conference title in 2006. Off the field, Olson was named to the National Honor Society, the National Council of Youth Leadership and the Academic All-State Team.

Jenkins and Olson join five other newcomers on the 2010 KU softball team. Maggie and Rosie Hull, Alex Jones, Mariah Montgomery and Kendall Patterson are also freshmen on this year’s team.
