Kansas Women's Basketball Opens 2010-11 Season With First Official Practice

Oct. 8, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas women’s basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with its first official practice here Friday afternoon. The Jayhawks went through a spirited three-hour practice in the Kansas Basketball practice gym to kick things off.

Under a new NCAA rule this year, women’s basketball teams can begin practice 40 days before their first game. They still are allowed only 30 practices — the same number they were allotted under the old system.

Kansas, who was tabbed to finish sixth in the Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll, enters the 2010-11 season with three returning starters and seven letterwinners from last season’s 17-16 team. KU will open exhibition play with a home game versus Fort Hays State on Sunday, Oct. 31. The Jayhawks will tip-off the 2010-11 season in Allen Fieldhouse when they play host to South Dakota.
