KU Finishes Fall Ball 10-0

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas softball team concluded Fall Ball with wins over Johnson County C.C. (5-1)and Missouri Western (1-0)Sunday at Arrocha Ballpark. With the victories, the Jayhawks finish the 2005 Fall season 10-0.

Freshman Valerie George picked up the win over JCCC, striking out six and allowing just one hit in the first four innings of play. Senior Serena Settlemier finished up the last three innings with five strikeouts and gave up one hit, securing KU’s 5-1 win.

Freshman third baseman Val Chapple led KU with a two-run homer and double on the day while senior second baseman Jessica Moppin added two hits and a stolen base.

KU held Missouri Western hitless in the next game. Settlemier got the start and struck out four while junior righty Kassie Humphreys finished the game with nine strikeouts and one walk in the final five innings.

The Jayhawks scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth when Chapple doubled to lead off the inning and senior shortstop Destiny Frankenstein drove her in with a single up the middle.

KU opens its season against Florida on Feb. 10 in the Wilson/DiMarini Tournament in Houston, Texas.
