KU's Late Night in the Phog Scheduled for Oct. 17, 6:30 p.m. Start

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas men’s and women’s basketball teams will celebrate the beginning of practice at the 24th annual Late Night in the Phog, Friday, Oct. 17, in Allen Fieldhouse.

The 2008 Late Night in the Phog, presented by People’s Bank and 6 News Lawrence, will run from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. Admission is free; doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

This year’s Late Night will feature the unveiling of a men’s basketball 2008 NCAA National Championship banner in Allen Fieldhouse.

For the second straight year, Metro Sports of Kansas City will air Late Night as part of its Midnight Madness show. This year’s hosts will be Nate Bukaty and former Jayhawk Greg Gurley. Additionally, KU’s event will also be featured on ESPNU’s coverage of Midnight Madness. The four-hour coverage begins at 8 p.m. (Central) and will include Kansas, Davidson, Gonzaga, Georgetown and Indiana. Bob Wischusen and Fran Fraschilla will be on hand to broadcast Late Night for ESPNU.

As is tradition at Late Night, fans are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items, which Kansas Athletics will donate to local food pantries.

Children 12 and under will not be admitted without an adult, and the Fieldhouse doors will be closed when the arena reaches capacity.

The event will feature music by the KU pep band, video highlights, introductions and scrimmages by the KU men’s and women’s teams, and much more. Upon entry, all fans will receive KU thunder sticks courtesy of People’s Bank.
