Jayhawks Take Over Lead in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Kansas freshman Yupaporn Kawinpakorn shot a 1-under 71 as Kansas moved into first place after two rounds of the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M., Tuesday.
Kawinpakorn sits atop the 76-golfer field with a two round 140 (-4) on the par 72 course. On Tuesday she recorded four birdies with two on the final three holes of the round. Kawinpakorn shot a 3-under 69 on Monday.
Kawinpakorn received plenty of support from her teammates on day two of the tournament as junior Thanuttra Boonraksasat and senior Audrey Yowell each shot even-par 72, while junior Meghan Potee recorded a two-over 74 on Tuesday. Sophomore Gabby DiMarco carded a 76 (+4) to round out the KU scorers.
Entering the day in second place, four strokes behind leader Idaho, Kansas shot a team season-low for 18 holes with a 289 (+1) on Tuesday, which was five strokes better than its previous season low of 294 (+6) set in the first round of the event on Monday. KU’s 583 (+7) are three shots ahead of Colorado State’s 586 (+10), while Idaho is third at 587 (+11).
Boonraksasat recorded seven birdies on Tuesday and is tied for 20th individually with a two-round 149 (+5). Potee sits tied for 11th at 147 (+3). The KU junior’s second round included three birdies.
Yowell improved nine strokes from Monday to Tuesday, shooting an 81 in the opening round and even par Tuesday and is tied for 37th at 153 (+9). Her Tuesday round was consistent as she carded two birdies and two bogies with the rest pars. DiMarco is tied for 30th with a two-round 151 (+7).
Kansas freshman Ann-Kathrin Wuensch is competing as an individual and shot a 7-over 79 on Tuesday, which matched her 79 on Monday. She is in 63rd place.
The third and final 18-hole round of the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Live scoring can be followed via golfstat.com.
