Jayhawks In Fifth At Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational

The University of Kansas women’s golf team is currently in fifth place, in a 12-team field, after two rounds of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational. The Jayhawks shot a 315 in the first round and a 297 in the second at the at the Colbert Hills Golf Course for a two round total of 612.

“We didn’t play very smart golf in the first round,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “The second round was much better and we will have to build off of that tomorrow.”

TCU leads the tournament with a 570 followed by Nebraska with a 582.

Junior Amanda Costner, who had nine birdies on the day including seven in the second round, is currently tied for fourth after rounds of 76 and 67 for a 143. Sophomore Annie Giangrosso is in 36th after a 76 and 80 for a 156 total. Senior Chelsey Pryor carded an 83 and 74 for a 157 to tie for 37th. Senior Meredith Winkelmann totaled a 160 after rounds of 84 and 76 put her in a tie for 46th. Junior Jill Womble is tied for 53rd after rounds of 80 and 83 gaver her a 163. Sophomore Sarah Kierl, playing as an individual, is in a tie for 46th after rounds of 78 and 82.

The Jayhawks will begin final round play on Tuesday with tee times set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
