Kansas Competes at the Head of the Rock

The fall rowing season continued for the Jayhawks on October 10, 2004 at the Head of the Rock in Rockford, Ill. The regatta proved to be very successful for the Jayhawks as they placed first in three of the five races they competed in.

The Jayhawks swept the Novice Single race with Rachel Chapman placing first in a time of 21:13.36, followed by Tricia Sawtelle in second at 21:13.69, and Lindsey Miles in third with a time of 21:21.28. Kansas was also the top winner in the Open Single race with Erin Hennessey’s time of 19:49.76. Hennessey was followed by teammate Jennifer Ebel in fifth at 20:21.35, Kristy Hainer in sixth at 20:33.65, Kris Lazar in ninth at 21:01.87 and Ashlea Kramer in eleventh at 21:27.19.

Kansas was again the top winner in the Open Double race with Erin Hennessey and Kristy Hainer in a time of 18:29.04. They were followed by teammates Rachel Chapman and Paige Phillips who finished fourth with a time of 19:00.09. Coming in fifth in the Open Double was Alexis Boston and Gillian Van Ruyven in a time of 19:07.57 and following close behind at 19:08.95 for sixth was Jennifer Ebel and Lindsey Miles. Tiffany Jeffers and Jennifer Pearson finished the race in eleventh with a time of 19:46.86.

The Jayhawks entered two boats in the Varsity Four race and finishing 11th and 19th with times of 18:16.65 and 18:44.50. Kansas also entered two boats in the Varsity Eight race and finished 11th and 21st.

The Jayhawks have the weekend off and will continue the fall season, Oct. 31, 2004, at the Head of the Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
