The University of Kansas women’s golf team heads to Las Cruces, N.M., to compete at Price’s “Give `em Five Fund”/New Mexico State Invitational, Oct. 16-18. The three-day tournament will take place on the New Mexico State University Golf Course (par-72, 6,319 yards) with 18 holes each day. Seniors Amanda Costner and Jill Womble, freshmen Meghan Gockel and Emily Powers and junior Annie Giangrosso will represent the Jayhawks at the tournament.

Along with Kansas — Baylor, Colorado, Kansas State, Missouri and Oklahoma round out the Big 12 Conference showing. The remainder of the 17-team field includes Boise State, Colorado State, Gonzaga, Hawai’i, Idaho, Indiana, Nevada, New Mexico State, San Jose State, U.C. Davis and UTEP.

“The field at this tournament is a good one with a lot of Big 12 teams,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “I think that our last two tournaments have been good for our confidence, and I hope that we continue to build on that success.”

Missouri won the tournament last year with a total score of 891, just two strokes ahead of New Mexico State and New Mexico who tied for second.

The Jayhawks last competed, Oct. 2-3, as they hosted the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. Kansas took first place with 917 strokes, while Powers, a Quincy, Ill., native, placed fourth individually with a score of 72 in the final round of play.
