Women's Golf to Compete at NMSU Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With three top-10 finishes under its belt, the Kansas women’s golf team strives to continue the streak as it competes in NMSU Price’s Give ‘Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 12-14. The three-day tournament will begin with a shotgun start each day, with Monday and Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. and Wednesday beginning at 8:00 a.m. The tournament will be played on the NMSU golf course (6,193 yards – par 72).

Sixteen teams will compete in this year’s tournament. Kansas will be joined by Big 12 foes Baylor and Kansas State. Other teams competing will include UC-Irvine, Mississippi State, Fresno State, Idaho, Boise State, Arizona, Oregon State, Nevada, North Texas, San Diego State, UTEP, Northern Arizona and Portland State.

The Jayhawks have not competed in the tournament since the 2006-2007 season, where they finished 14th out of 17 teams. Then-Jayhawk Amanda Costner led the team with a 225 and tied for 13th place. Current players Emily Powers and Meghan Gockel tied for 31st and 64th respectively.

The lineup for this tournament will include Powers, Gockel, Meghna Bal, Grace Thiry and Jennifer Clark.

Powers has led the team in each tournament this season and currently owns a team-best 75.00 average. Thiry is second at 78.22, while Gockel stands at 78.44. Bal and Clark are each averaging 79.67 strokes per round.

The team is coming off a 10th place finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
