After a three-week hiatus, the University of Kansas men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., this Saturday for NCAA Pre-Nationals. The meet, which is hosted by Indiana State University and held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course, boasts one of this season’s strongest fields in the nation.

The event will serve as a preview for the NCAA Championship meet, which is scheduled for Nov. 21 on the same course. Saturday will feature three races each for the men and women and will include 23 of the top 30 men’s and women’s teams in the nation.

The KU men’s team, currently ranked No. 28 in the Mondo Men’s National Cross Country Poll, will open the day’s competition with the 8k blue race at 11 a.m. The field for that race includes 32 teams, 11 of which are currently ranked in the top 30. The Jayhawks are joined by No. 4 BYU, No. 5 Stanford, No. 10 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, No. 12 Georgetown, No. 17 Florida State, No. 18 Ohio State, No. 21. Indiana, No. 22 Dartmouth, No. 23 N.C. State and No. 29 Virginia.

Following the men’s blue race will be the men’s white race at 11:40 p.m., the women’s blue race at 12:20 p.m., the women’s white race at 12:55 p.m., and the men’s open race at 1:30 p.m. The final race of the day will be the women’s open race at 2:10 p.m. and will feature a field of six teams, including the Jayhawks.

The men’s cross country team is coming off an impressive performance at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis on Sept. 24 where they finished eighth out of 27 teams. Junior Benson Chesang was the second overall finisher in that race in a time 24:05.

Saturday’s race in Terre Haute will also serve as the Jayhawks’ final competition before the Big 12 Championships, set for Friday, Oct. 28, in Waco, Texas.
