KU's Thiry Shoots 71 To Lead Kansas On Second Day Of NMSU Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Grace Thiry fired a one-under par 71, while Meghna Bal and Emily Powers shot 74s to help the Kansas women’s golf team move up to eighth place in the team standings at the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate Tuesday.

The Jayhawks improved four places from their first round standing of 12th. The Jayhawks shot a 297 team score and are at 603 heading into Wednesday’s final round. Idaho leads the event at 583, with UC-Irvine one shot back at 584.

Bal leads the Jayhawks as she is tied for sixth place with a 145 total. Bal opened the tournament with a one-under par 71 on Monday before carding a 74 on Tuesday. The second day belonged to Thiry though, as she was the only Jayhawk to break par in the second round. Her 149 total is tied for 21st.

Emily Powers cut seven strokes off her first-round score with a 74 on Tuesday and is tied for 53rd at 154. Jennifer Clark shot a 78 and is tied for 45th at 154, while Meghan Gockel’s 79 did not count in the team scoring. She is tied for 86th at 164.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Wednesday.
