Whittemore Signs with Nashville

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Former University of Kansas quarterback Bill Whittemore signed a contract with the Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League. Whittemore, who spent two seasons as KU’s starting quarterback, was signed as a free agent by the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football Leauge and also played for the Peoria Pirates of the Arena2 League after his days in Lawrence.

Whittemore finished his Jayhawk career with 310 pass completions (sixth place all-time at KU) on 568 attempts (seventh place) for 4,051 yards (sixth place). He also ended up in fourth place with 5,134 yards of total offense in his career, and set the KU career record for touchdowns responsible for with 50.

The Nashville Kats begin play in the AFL’s Eastern Division in January 2005. The expansion franchise, owned by Tennessee Titans owner K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr., will keep the name and identity of the previous Nashville Kats arena football franchise, which played in the AFL from 1997-2001.
