Oct. 14, 2006

OMAHA, Neb. – The KU swimming and diving team kicked off the 2006-07 season undefeated in dual meet action after a two-meet road trip to Nebraska Saturday. The Jayhawks had a record-breaking day, defeating Nebraska-Omaha, 220-79, and South Dakota State, 227-71, at HPER Pool.

Junior Lauren Bonfe was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing first and breaking a HPER Pool record with her finish (57.81). Freshman Maria Mayrovich captured wins in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Mayrovich also shattered a pool record for her performance in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 51.38.

“We had a very good meet against Nebraska-Omaha and South Dakota State,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “This weekend was all about getting on the road and racing, and I thought we performed well.”

The Jayhawks recorded first place finishes in every event of the double-dual meet against the Mavericks and Jackrabbits.

On the diving front, senior Shelby Noonan, junior Jenny Roberts, and freshman Meghan Proehl finished first, second and third, respectively, on the one-meter board.

Kansas will next be in action when they head to Missouri on October 27 for the Border Showdown. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
