Kansas Falls To Kansas State 59-7

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas football suffered a 59-7 set back at the hands of in-state rival Kansas State at Memorial Stadium here Thursday evening. The loss dropped the Jayhawks to 2-4 on the season, including a 0-2 mark in Big 12 Conference play, while KSU improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in league action.

The Jayhawks forced a KSU three and out on its first possession of the game, before giving up points on the Wildcats’ next six possessions and an additional score off a Kansas fumble.

Jayhawk redshirt freshman quarterback Jordan Webb turned in a career-best passing performance as he completed 26-of-46 passes for 228 yards on the evening. Webb set new personal bests for both completions and attempts. Senior wide receiver Jonathan Wilson recorded eight catches for 62 yards.

Senior running back Angus Quigley led KU in rushing with 70 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

Kansas State outgained Kansas 460-331, including a 276-103 advantage on the ground. KSU senior running back Daniel Thomas led the Wildcat ground game with 91 yards rushing on 18 carries. Thomas scored one touchdown with a nine-yard run in the second quarter.

KSU senior quarterback Carson Coffman led the Wildcats through the air as he completed 15-of-16 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Coffman also rushed 10 times for 42 yards with three of those rushes going for touchdowns. Freshman wide receiver Tramaine Thompson was the leading receiver for Kansas State as he hauled in five receptions for 58 yards.

Kansas will return to action Saturday, Oct. 23, when it plays host to Texas A&M. The Jayhawks and Aggies will kick-off at 6 p.m., with a live broadcast on Fox Sports Net.
