Kansas Soccer Team Downs Oklahoma State, 1-0

STILLWATER, Okla. – Senior goalkeeper Meghan Miller made three saves and picked up her Big 12-leading ninth shutout of the season as the University of Kansas soccer team won its fifth straight game by defeating Oklahoma State, 1-0, on Friday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex in Stillwater, Okla. The win improves the Jayhawks’ record to 13-2 this season with a 5-1 mark in Big 12 play.

Kansas controlled the flow of the game in the first period, outshooting the Cowgirls 16-3. Senior Rachel Gilfillan got KU on the board when she scored her sixth goal of the season at the 42:19 mark of the first period. After Kansas was awarded a corner kick, sophomore Nicole Cauzillo fired the ball towards the net, where Gilfillan was waiting and redirected the pass beyond the reach of Oklahoma State goalkeeper Breanna Truelove.

Truelove kept the Cowgirls (10-3-2; 2-3-1 Big 12) in the match, making 10 saves in the contest. The Cowgirls were able to apply pressure on Kansas in the second half, as they outshot KU 7-6 in the second frame, but
Miller and the Kansas defense would not relinquish the lead.

For the match, the Jayhawks collected 22 shots, just two off their season-high, which came on Oct. 1 when they collect 24 against Texas Tech. Kansas is now 5-2 in one-goal games this season.

“We played pretty well, I was impressed with our team tonight,” said head coach Mark Francis. “We had 22 shots and 12 of them were on goal, so we were creating a lot of chances. Their goalkeeper played very well, she
had 10 saves and three or four of them were unbelievable. I would have like to have seen up finish a little better, but we played well. Any time you can go on the road and get a win in the Big 12 that is an accomplishment.
I’m pretty happy, but now we have to focus on Sunday’s game with Oklahoma.”

The Jayhawks are in action on Sunday as they travel to Norman, Okla., to take on the Oklahoma Sooners at 1 p.m.
