KU Swept At #7 Missouri

The University of Kansas volleyball team dropped a three-game match to seventh-ranked Missouri Saturday night at the Hearnes Center, 30-23, 30-21 and 30-11. With the loss, the Jayhawks moved to 12-6 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12 Conference while the Tigers improved to 13-2 and 7-2 in league action.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
With the victory, Mizzou takes a 1.5 lead in the 2005-06 Border Showdown, presented by Midwest Ford dealers.
KU was plagued by hitting errors in game one, recording 11 kills and nine errors on 43 attempts for a .047 attack percentage. The offense picked up in game two, hitting .257, but could not get past MU’s solid blocking and serving. The Tigers finished the match with nine aces, including five from setter Lindsey Hunter.
The Jayhawks managed just four kills and had six hitting errors on 28 attempt for an -.071 attack percentage. MU blasted 18 kills and just two errors for a .485 clip to take the game, 30-11, and match.
Senior Paula Caten led the Jayhawks with 10 kills and added nine digs. Sophomore Emily Brown added eight kills and eight digs while junior Jamie Mathewson paced the defense with 12 digs. Senior Josi Lima also contributed eight digs and seven kills on a team-best .273 hitting efficiency in the loss.
Three Tigers recorded double-digit kills and libero Tatum Ailes led all players with 16 digs. Mizzou posted a .351 hitting efficiency and held KU to a .085 clip, totaling 14.0 blocks. The crowd of 3,699 was the second-largest in MU volleyball history.
KU will look to snap its three-match losing streak Wednesday when it hosts Iowa State at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
