Costner Leads Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational

Fayettville, Ark. – The University of Kansas women’s golf team is currently in a tie for fourth, in a 16-team field, after the first round of the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational. The Jayhawks shot an opening round of 303 at the par-72 Pinnacle Country Club.

“We hit some good shots out there today” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “I feel like this is a type of course that will let us shoot low if we can go out and execute.”

Host school Arkansas leads the tournament with a 291 followed by Nebraska with a 298.

Junior Amanda Costner, who birdied five holes on thd day, is the overall leader by one stroke after firing a 70. Senior Chelsey Pryor and sophomore Sarah Kierl are tied for 30th after opening rounds of 77. Sophomore Annie Giangrosso is in a tie for 51st after shooting a 79. Senior Meredith Winkelmann shot an 82 to put her in a tie for 72nd. Junior Jill Womble, playing as an individual, is in 87th after carding an 87.

“Amanda played well today,” O’Neil said. “We have come to expect that type of steady play out of her and she delivers for us.”
