The University of Kansas women’s golf team sits in 12th place, in a 17-team field, with a score of 313 after the first round of Price’s “Give `Em Five Fund”/New Mexico State Invitational Monday.

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>San Jose State is in first place shooting 296 after one round on the par-72, 6,319-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course. Three shots behind is Boise State in second place with 299 after one round.

Senior Amanda Costner leads the Jayhawks in a tie for 11th place carding 75, while freshman Emily Powers is in a tie for 36th place with 78 at the end of round one.

In a tie for 49th place is junior Annie Giangrosso with a one-round score of 79, and freshman Meghan Gockel is tied for 68th place with 81 shots. In 86th place is senior Jill Womble shooting 88 after the first round.

“This was not our best day,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “There is still plenty of time left, and we are ready to go out to make up some ground.”

The three-day tournament will continue with the second round Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. (MST).
