KU Tied for Sixth after Day One at Prestige at PGA West

The Kansas men’s golf team stands in a tie for sixth after 36-holes were completed on day one at the Prestige at PGA West. Kansas, led by seniors Gary Woodland and Tyler Docking, shot rounds of 301 and 294 at the par 72, 7,156-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA West in LaQuinta, Calif.
Senior Gary Woodland fired rounds of 69 and 72 to finish the day tied for fourth. Woodland is attempting to finish in the top-10 for the fourth time in four tries this fall. Senior Tyler Docking came on strong in the second-round of play, shooting a three-under 69 to go along with his first-round score of 75 and is currently tied for 10th place.
“I thought Gary and Tyler played well and the others didn’t do quite as well,” said Coach Ross Randall. “We made a lot of birdies, but we need to limit our big numbers if we are going to finish in the top-five tomorrow. It is a tough course with lots of water hazards and it is a definite adjustment for us to play desert style golf. The field is very strong and for Gary to have a chance to win the tournament is very impressive for him.”
Co-host Stanford is currently tied for the team lead with UCLA with a first-day total of 570 strokes. Kansas is tied for sixth place out of 15 teams with fellow Big 12 member Colorado with 595 strokes.
Sophomore Zach Pederson is tied for 52nd after shooting rounds of 79 and 75. Freshman Bobby Knowles carded rounds of 79 and 78 for a total of 157 and currently stands in a tie for 65th place. Senior Barrett Martens is in a tie for 70th after firing rounds of 78 and 81.
