KU Sweeps Big 12 Soccer Player of the Week Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Three University of Kansas soccer players have earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for matches played Oct. 13-15.

Sophomore midfielder Jessica Bush (Offensive), goalkeeper Julie Hanley (Defensive) and freshman Monica Dolinsky (Newcomer) all captured player of the week recognition for the first time this season.

This marks the first time that one school has swept the conference’s weekly awards since the Big 12 started honoring three student-athletes each week in 2000. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

KU swept a pair of contests on the road over the weekend, defeating Iowa State (2-0) on Friday and Missouri (4-0) Sunday.

Bush, a 5-foot-2 midfielder from Blue Springs, Mo., earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career. The sophomore scored three goals in the two Jayhawk wins and tallied the game-winning goal in both matches. She is currently second on the team with five goals and 12 points this season.

Hanley, a 5-foot-9 goalkeeper from Indianapolis, Ind., earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition for the first time in her career. The sophomore keeper recorded her fifth shutout of the season in Friday’s win at Iowa State and did not allow a single goal in 76 minutes of action on Sunday. She has allowed one goal or less in nine straight matches and has shut out four Big 12 opponents. Hanley currently has a .774 save percentage and an 0.93 goals against average.

Dolinsky, a 5-foot-5 midfielder from Carmel, Ind., took home Newcomer of the Week honors for the first time in her career. The freshman midfielder scored six points in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Missouri, becoming just the sixth player in KU history to accomplish this feat. She was involved in all four of the Jayhawks’ scoring plays against the Tigers, collecting two goals and two assists. Dolinsky leads KU with six goals, four assists and 16 points this year.

Kansas (9-6, 4-3 in Big 12 play) will host Baylor on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

Midfielder Jessica Bush was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.

Midfielder Monica Dolinsky was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

Sophomore Julie Hanley was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
