Seven Jayhawks Named To Phil Steele's Midseason All-Big 12 Football Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – First-team selections – wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe and safety Darrell Stuckey – highlighted the Kansas selections on the Phil Steele Midseason All-Big 12 Football Teams, which were announced Friday.

Briscoe was also named to the magazine’s All-America Second Team behind first team picks Eric Decker of Minnesota, Jordan Shipley of Texas and Golden Tate of Notre Dame.

Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing made the conference second team behind Colt McCoy of Texas. Other Jayhawks on the second team included wide receiver Kerry Meier and defensive end Jake Laptad.

Third-team picks included offensive linemen Jeremiah Hatch and Jeff Spikes.

Briscoe enters Saturday’s game at Colorado ranked second in the nation in receiving yards per game (129.25), eighth in all-purpose yardage (178.75) and tied for ninth in receptions (7.50).

Stuckey has recorded 32 tackles in the last three games, including 14 last week against Iowa State.

Reesing ranks in the top five in the NCAA in four different categories, including fourth in points responsible for (19.20), fifth in passing yards (315.80), fifth in completions (26.60) and fifth in total offense (336.00).

Meier is fourth in the nation in receptions per game at 8.60, while his 95.40 receiving yards per game ranks 21st.

Laptad recorded sacks in each of the first four games and is tied for 19th in the country in that category. Laptad recorded a career-high seven tackles against Iowa State last week.

Sophomores Hatch and Spikes are veterans on a young offensive line, which has helped the Jayhawks to rank third in the nation in total offense at 519.40 per game and fourth in scoring offense at 40.60 per game.

The 17th-ranked Jayhawks play at Colorado on Saturday before returning home to host Oklahoma on Oct. 24 at either 2:30 or 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ABC with the time announced either late Saturday or early Sunday.
