LAWRENCE, Kan. –

With the competitive season officially underway, the University of Kansas Swimming and Diving team earned fourth place (43 points) at the annual Big 12 Relays, held Saturday in Columbia, Mo. Texas A&M (109 points), Texas (103 points) and Missouri (75 points), placed first, second and third place, respectively. Iowa State (35 points) and Nebraska-Lincoln (31) rounded out the top six.

The KU swimmers placed fourth in seven events, including the 100-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay and the 100-yard freestyle relay.

“We were ok at the meet,” Head Coach Clark Campbell said. “(Iuliia) Kuzhil, (Erin) Goetz, (Kath) Liggett, (Shannon) Garlie, and (Lindsey) Legako all had solid meets.”

The 200-yard medley relay placed a team-best third. Kuzhil, junior Joy Bunting, freshman Brooke Brull and Goetz finished the relay with a time of 1:45.35.

“Hopefully more folks will heal up and we’ll have a better showing against Arkansas and Florida next week, Campbell said.”

Kansas will return to the pool when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark. on Oct. 24 to face Arkansas and Florida. The meet will begin at 2 p.m.
