Oct. 17, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Members of the University of Kansas volleyball team took time to visit local elementary schools this week to participate in the READ program with several other KU student-athletes.

Kansas volleyball players met with area children to spend time reading to them, while encouraging and stressing the importance of books. Student-athletes then took time at the end of each session to sign autographs for the youngsters and answer a few questions.

The volleyball team, who is 8-9 overall and 2-6 in the Big 12, is holding its third annual Dig For the Cure match Saturday, Oct. 18 when it hosts Oklahoma at the Horejsi Family Athletic Center. Match time with the Sooners is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and volunteers will be on hand to accept donations and pledges to benefit the Kansas City Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
