LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a strong showing at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last weekend, the Kansas men’s cross country team advanced two spots to No. 5 in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings, announced Monday. The women’s team dropped two spots to No. 8.

The men’s team was ranked No. 11 in the preseason, but has moved up six spots during the first half of the season. After a strong performance in Madison on Friday, Oct. 14, the KU men now occupy the No. 5 spot in the Midwest Region poll. Conference opponent Oklahoma State is atop the list, followed by Oklahoma, Minnesota and Tulsa.

The women’s team dropped to No. 8 after holding steady at No. 6 for three-straight weeks. Big 12 foe Iowa State stayed at the top spot for the seventh week in a row, while Iowa and Minnesota rank 2 and 3, respectively. The KU women have one event title under their belts in 2011, when they won the Missouri Cross Country Invitational Sept. 10.

Both the men’s and women’s squads have one more competition before the Midwest Regional Championships on Nov. 12. They will travel to College Station, Texas on Oct. 29 for the Big 12 Championships.
