Kansas Tennis Prepares For KU Invitational

Oct. 17, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women’s tennis team continues its fall campaign at home this weekend with the KU Invitational at Jayhawk Tennis Center.

Play opens on Friday and ends Sunday, with matches beginning at 9 a.m. on all three days. Other competing teams include Arkansas-Little Rock, Drake, Iowa State, Kansas State, Northern Iowa and UMKC.

One round of singles will take place each day, with one round of doubles being played on Friday and two rounds of doubles on Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.

The Jayhawks are coming off a strong performance two weeks ago at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. Senior Victoria Khanevskaya and junior Claire Dreyer each won their respective singles draw, while Dreyer and freshman Anastasija Trubica won the final of their doubles draw at the William & Mary-hosted tournament.

Kansas will be without its top four players at the KU Invitational, all of which are travelling to the ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Pezzotti to play in main singles draw at ITA Regionals

Due to a player withdrawal, senior Monica Pezzotti will now play in the main singles draw at the ITA Regional Championships instead of having to first advance through the Thursday qualifying rounds.

Pezzotti will join two of her teammates, sophomore Maria Belen Ludueña and freshman Maria Jose Cardona, in the main singles draw, while junior Dylan Windom still must first compete in the qualifying draw. All four will also play in the main doubles draw.

Pezzotti is set team-up with Windom in doubles, while Cardona will play with Ludueña in the main doubles draw. Windom and Pezzotti entered the season as the No. 25-ranked doubles team in the nation.
