Jayhawks to Meet Bears on Saturday

Oct. 18, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The University of Kansas (3-4, 0-3 Big 12) hits the road for the third time this season when it heads to Waco, Texas for a Big 12 Conference contest against Baylor (3-4, 2-1 Big 12). Saturday’s kickoff from Floyd Casey Stadium is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.

“Baylor is a good football team,” KU Head Coach Mark Mangino said at his weekly press conference on Tuesday. “Guy Morriss has done a great job there. We’re busy out on the practice field getting ready, and I like the way we’re approaching this game.”

The Jayhawks enter the game against the Bears looking to snap a current three-game losing skid after falling to Oklahoma State, 42-32, last week in Lawrence. Kansas took a 14-0 lead into the halftime break, but OSU scored six second-half touchdowns and held off a late Jayhawk rally for the win. Freshman quarterback Kerry Meier threw for a career-best three touchdowns and ran for a career-high 70 yards in his first appearance since KU’s third game of the season.

After winning its first two Big 12 games of the season, Baylor enters the contest on the heels of a 63-31 setback to No. 6 Texas on Oct. 14. Earlier in the year, the Bears posted wins over Big 12 North members Kansas State (17-3) and Colorado (34-31 ot).
