Oct. 18, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas sophomore Jessica Bush has been named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week for the week of Oct. 17. The 5-foot-2 midfielder was one of 18 student-athletes named to the publication’s team of the week. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Bush, a sophomore from Blue Spring, Mo., scored a pair of game-winning goals last weekend, helping the Jayhawks down Big 12 rivals Iowa State (2-0) and Missouri (4-0). The sophomore scored three goals in all, including two against Border Showdown rival Missouri on Sunday. The two-goal effort was Bush’s first career multi-goal contest. Earlier this week, she was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.

This marks the first time that Bush has been named to the National Team of the Week. She becomes the first KU player to earn National Team of the Week distinction since Jessica Smith was named to the team on Oct. 14 of last year.

The Elite Team of the Week is selected by the editors of Soccer Buzz, an online publication devoted to women’s collegiate soccer at the NCAA Division 1 level. Buzz began publishing on the web in 1996.

KU (9-6, 4-3 in Big 12) returns home this weekend to face Baylor on Friday at 3 p.m., and Texas Tech Sunday at 1 p.m.
