Kansas Finishes 14th after Price's NMSU Invitational's Final Round

The University of <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas women’s golf team finished the three-day, three-round Price’s “Give `Em Five Fund”/New Mexico State Invitational Wednesday in 14th place (17-team field). The Jayhawks combined for a total score of 933 (313-313-307) at New Mexico State University Golf Course (par-72, 6,319 yards). Kansas finished with 307 strokes in the final round, its best round of the tournament.

The tournament’s host, New Mexico State, finished with top honors with a total of 890 strokes, while Big 12 Conference’s Baylor took second with 896.

New Mexico State’s Lehua Wise took the individual crown with a combined score 214, and Missouri’s Ellen Hoeper finished second, just two strokes out of first, with 216.

Kansas senior Amanda Costner shot a 73 in the final round, her best score of the tournament, which put her at 225 strokes (75-77-73) and in a tie for 13th place. Freshman Emily Powers carded a 77 in the final round to finish tied for 31st with 231 strokes (78-76-77).

Freshman Meghan Gockel tied for 64th place with a final-round score of 76, which brought her total score to 239 (81-82-76). Junior Annie Giangrosso finished with an 83 in the final round and a three-round score of 240 (79-78-83) to put her in a tie for 69th place. Senior Jill Womble tied for 84th with an 81 in the final round and a total score of 254 (88-85-81) after three rounds.

“I’m happy we were able to come back and have a good day today,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “We finished on a good note, and this week we need to fix a few things to prepare for our next tournament at Auburn.”
