Oct. 18, 2010

Senior Maria Martinez reviews her personal and team goals for this year. She plans to graduate in December 2011 with degree in Speech Language Hearing.

Why did you choose KU?
When I visited KU I really loved the team spirit and unity. These are unique traits that are not seen often. Coach Hall and Coach Dalmagro are the foundation that keeps the team so close. The athletic department is also extremely supportive of all their athletes. These qualities are what made my decision so easy.

Are you satisfied with your decision?
Absolutely! KU is the best place to be! I would never go anywhere else.

What is your best memory you ever had with the tennis team throughout the years?
It’s hard to just pick one, but I would say going with the team to Hawaii.

How do you like the team this year?
I love the team. The girls make every day exciting. I am just always so happy to be at practice.

What are your goals for this year?
The goal this year is to every time we step out on the court to perform to the best of our ability. Even though we have a young team, the talent the team possesses is great.

What would you like to improve on personally this year?
I would like to have more patience in the game and stay in the point a little bit longer.

What is your major?
I am majoring in Speech Language Hearing. I chose it because I find language to be very complex and interesting. I love that I can help people from different ages from children to the elderly.

What are your plans after you are done with tennis in May?
I would like to continue helping the team any way possible after I’m done with tennis.

What are your plans after graduation?
I graduate in December 2011. I plan to go to grad school and become a speech pathologist.
