Oct. 18, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the fifth time this season, Kansas soccer has been honored by the Big 12 Conference as redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Stroud was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for games played Oct. 10-16. Stroud earns player of the week honors for the first time in her career.

The 5-foot-11 goalkeeper was instrumental in the Jayhawks’ 3-1 victory at Texas Tech last Friday. Stroud collected a career-best eight saves to help KU record its first conference road win of the season. The Fayetteville, Ga., native improved to 7-2 between the posts, while her 4.0 saves per game rank third in the Big 12. Additionally, her .727 save percentage is the ninth-best mark among league goalies.

Stroud becomes the fourth Jayhawk named a conference player of the week this season. Junior Whitney Berry was named offensive player of the week on Oct. 4, while freshmen Jamie Fletcher (Aug. 23) and Ingrid Vidal (Aug. 30 and Sept. 6) have combined for three newcomer of the week honors.

Kansas is back in action this weekend in a pair of road contests. The Jayhawks travel to Missouri on Friday, Oct. 21 before heading to Iowa State on Sunday, Oct. 23.
