Red Team Blanks Blue Team 8-0 in Baseball Scrimmage

Senior left-handed pitcher Mike Zagurski pitched six shutout innings to lead the Red Team to a 8-0 victory over the Blue Team on Monday, as the University of Kansas baseball team resumed practices following fall break.

The Red Team scored two runs against Blue Team starter Kodiak Quick in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Travis Dunlap and an RBI ground out by Ryne Price.

Gus Milner, Ritchie Price and Sean Richardson each doubled in the fourth inning to help the Red Team put four more runs on the board and take a 6-0 lead. Richardson, Ritchie Price and A. J. Van Slyke each had two hits at the plate for the Red Team.

On the mound for the Blue Team, Quick pitched six innings, struck out six batters and allowed four earned runs. Freshman John Allman paced the Blue team offensively with a pair of hits in the game.

Zagurski finished the game with 10 strikeouts and only three hits allowed, while junior closer Don Czyz recorded two strikeouts while pitching a perfect ninth inning.

Fall practice resumes on Tuesday afternoon when the Blue team and Red Team scrimmage at 3 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark.
