Avdeeva and Horvath Eliminated in Quarterfinals of ITA Central Region Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>TULSA, Okla. – University of Kansas senior Elizaveta Avdeeva and junior Edina Horvath were defeated in the doubles quarterfinals at the ITA Central Region Championships on Saturday, coming up short in their attempt for a second-straight title at the event.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The tandem, which was named All-Big 12 last season, was eliminated by Oklahoma’s 12th-seeded duo of Chelsea Orr and Ana Constantinesc, 8-2.

Avdeeva and Horvath, ranked 36th in the country and seeded second at the Championships, were looking for a second consecutive title at the tournament after winning last year’s final by a count of 8-3 over Arkansas’ tandem of Airepetion and Franco. The pair had advanced to the quarterfinals by grinding out wins of 9-7 and 9-8 (5) in its prior matches.

KU will next be in action when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for the Seminole Invitational. The event is set to run Nov. 2-4.
