Kansas men’s golf team shot a final round 313 to slip to a seventh-place finish at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at Blue Hills Country Club.

Junior Jeff Bell was a bright spot for the Jayhawks in the final round as he fired a 75 and tied for 11th place. It marks the second top-20 finish for Bell in his first season with the Jayhawks.

“Today was just a very disappointing day,” said head coach Kit Grove. “We had a rough start and were never able to regroup.”

Bell was joined in the top-20 by junior Nate Barbee. Barbee shot a final day 79 and finished tied for 16th. Barbee has earned top-20 finishes in each of the four events this season.

Freshman Alex Gutesha carded a final round 79 and tied for 22nd place. Senior Bryan Hackenberg shot an 80 in round three to tie for 45th. Freshman Chris Gilbert shot an 81 and tied for 50th.

Freshman Dan Waite turned in a solid finish playing as an individual in the event. Waite carded the Jayhawks’ best round of the day with a 74 and finished tied for 27th.

Central Arkansas edged out Nebraska by five strokes for the team title. Dustin Garza of Wichita State held onto to his overnight lead and won medalist honors.

The Jayhawks will conclude the fall portion of their schedule when they travel to Las Cruces, N.M. Oct. 26-27 to compete in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Check back to kuathletics.com for complete coverage of the 2009-10 season.
