Kansas Tennis Advances In Doubles Competition

Tulsa, Okla. – The doubles team of junior Christine Skoda and freshman Lauren Hommell advanced to the second round of competition Thursday, at the Wilson/ITA Regional tournament in Tulsa, Okla., held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Skoda and Hommell downed Arkansas-Little Rock’s Jenna Hirdle and Outi Jarvinen, 8-4, to propel themselves into Friday’s second round of competition. The duo was Kansas’ lone victory on the day, as the sophomore team of Ashley Filberth and Brittany Brown were defeated by Arkansas-Little Rock’s Rosario Negrete and Bindiya Parekh, 8-0.

In singles competition, Skoda lost to Colorado State’s Dasha Zhurin, 6-1, 6-2, while Hommell fell to the number three seed, Nebraska’s Gitte Osterman, 6-3, 6-1.

Tomorrow the `Hawks will continue play with the round of 32 in doubles competition and consolation rounds in singles. Live scoring for the event can be accessed on the University of Tulsa’s web site at www.TulsaHurricane.com.

This weekend’s events will mark the end of the `Hawks fall session of play.
