LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas baseball team continued its fall practices on Tuesday by holding a scrimmage at Hoglund Ballpark. In the game, the Red Team defeated the Blue Team, 9-1, behind the outstanding pitching performance of sophomore left-handed pitcher Sean Land.

Land kept the Red Team hitters off balance in five innings of work, as he allowed only two hits, one earned run and struck out six batters.

The Red Team was able to jump on Blue Team starter Logan Murphy for four runs in the first inning. The frame was highlighted by an RBI by senior catcher Sean Richardson and a two-run double by freshman infielder Ryne Price, who finished the game with three hits.

Junior oufielders Gus Milner and A.J. Van Slyke joined Richardson with two hits and an RBI at the plate, while junior shortstop Ritchie Price collected a pair of hits, including a two-run single. Senior first baseman Andy Scholl also chipped in offensively for the Red Team with a pair of RBI on a sacrifice fly and a groundout.

Freshman outfielder Brock Simpson scored the lone run of the day for the Blue Team, doubling and later scoring on an RBI single by senior infielder Mike Dudley.
