Kansas' Avdeeva and Horvath Advance to Doubles Semifinals at ITA Central Regionals

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>TULSA, Okla. – The University of Kansas’ doubles tandem of junior Elizaveta Avdeeva and sophomore Edina Horvath moved into the semifinal round of the doubles bracket at the Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The duo defeated Nebraska’s Kahl and Swartins, 8-1, and will face Arkansas’ top-seeded team of Bordeleau and Kaluder on Sunday for a spot in the championship match.

In singles play, Avdeeva, who advanced to the bracket’s quarterfinal round on Friday, lost her first match of the day, falling to Nebraska’s Imke Reimers, 6-3, 6-3.

Freshman Kunigunda Dorn advanced all the way to the semifinals of the consolation singles draw on day four of the tournament, but fell in her bid to reach the final.

Play at the Championships will conclude on Sunday, with all remaining matches in the singles, doubles, and consolation brackets scheduled to take place.
