Angel Goodrich To Miss 2008-09 Season With Knee Injury

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman guard Angel Goodrich will miss the entire 2008-09 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in practice on Sunday afternoon, Jayhawk head coach Bonnie Henrickson announced Tuesday.

The 5-foot-4 guard was expected to see significant playing time in her first season with the Jayhawks. Goodrich arrived at KU as one of the highest ranked signees in Kansas women’s basketball history after helping guide her Sequoyah High squad to three state titles in four seasons. She was named a 2008 WBCA State Farm High School All-American, as well as the 2007 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year.

The Tahlequah, Okla., native will have surgery on Wednesday, October 29 and following rehabilitation will return to the court for Kansas in 2009-10 as a redshirt freshman.

The Jayhawks will hit the court for the first time this season on Sunday, Nov. 2, when KU hosts Fort Hays State in an exhibition game at 2 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks will kick off regular season play on Friday, Nov. 14 when they host Sacred Heart at 7 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse.
