Updated Doubles Draws Get Acrobat Reader

Junior Monica Pezzotti and sophomore Paulina Los made it to the semifinals of Doubles Draw A Friday on the first day of the 2011 KU Invitational at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Kansas went 4-0 in doubles competition and 3-3 in singles matches.

The tandem of Pezzotti and Los took down Iowa State’s Nikki Reber and Emma Waites, 8-1, and Marquette’s Gillian Hush and Ali Dawson, 8-4, to make it to the semifinals. They will face Karla Bonacic and Carmen Borau Ramos from Kansas State on Saturday.

Junior Victoria Khanevskaya and sophomore Amy Barnthouse also won both of their doubles matches in Round Robin Doubles. The duo defeated UMKC’s Gabriela Pintos and Jessica Ball, 8-5, in Round One, and Ellie Nixon and Chelsea Loprizini of Iowa State, 8-1, in Round Two. The Kansas pair will face Abilene Christian’s Madelyn Walker and Emily Conrad Saturday in Round Three.

In Singles competition, Los defeated Abilene Christian’s Brittney Reed, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6, to advance in Singles Draw B. Barnthouse routed Loprizini in singles competition as well, winning 6-0, 6-1, in Singles Draw E. Freshman Karen Hernandez won an ITA-sanctioned match outside of the draws against Abilene Christian’s Felicity Delgado, 6-0, 6-1.

The Jayhawks will return to the courts Saturday morning for the second day of the KU Invitational. Play will begin at 10 a.m. with two rounds of doubles. Singles action is slated to begin around 1 p.m. Please check back with kuathletics.com for complete results from the three-day tournament.
