Jayhawks Lose At Baylor, 3-1

Despite double-digit kills by four Jayhawks, Kansas fell to Baylor, 31-29, 30-26, 27-30 and 30-20, Saturday night at the Ferrell Center. With the loss, KU moved to 12-8 overall and 4-7 in Big 12 Conference play.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Senior Josi Lima led KU with 16 kills and contributed 11 digs and 4.5 blocks in the defensive effort. Sophomore Emily Brown had 13 kills and 11 digs and senior Paula Caten added 12 kills and 10 digs.

Junior Megan Hill, in just her fourth start of the season, set a new career high with 13 kills and junior libero Jamie Mathewson led the defense with 16 digs.

Senior Andi Rozum dished a match-best 52 assists to go with her nine kills and .643 attack percentage.

Baylor (12-10, 4-7 Big 12) was led by junior Desiree Guilliard-Young, who had 18 kills on a .414 hitting efficiency and six total blocks.

KU hit .229 in the match and recorded 10.0 total blocks in the loss. The Bears hit .285 and totaled 18.0 blocks on the night.

“I am very pleased with the effort and energy tonight,” KU head coach Ray Bechard said. “There are some technical things we need to improve on but they are fixable. The team is in the right frame of mind right now and extremely united in what they know they can accomplish this season.”

KU will try to stop its five-match skid Wednesday night at #1 Nebraska (19-0, 1-0 Big 12) in Lincoln. First serve at the Nebraska Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.
