Kansas Women's Golf to Wrap Fall Season at Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.—Kansas women’s golf will finish the fall portion of its schedule at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C., Oct. 25 and 26.

“We are excited to compete at Kiawah Island this week,” said Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil. “The course is a good challenge and we should be able to score well there as long as we use our heads and stay focused throughout the competition.”

Junior Katy Nugent leads Kansas into the event with a team best 75 strokes per round average. She tied for 22nd place individually, the high finish among at the Jayhawks, at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate. Joining Nugent in the lineup for the Jayhawks at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate are Meghan Potee, Meghna Bal, Thanuttra Boonraksasat and Grace Thiry.

Potee will be on the Kansas scorecard for the first time this season after competing in her first three events as an individual and compiling a 78 strokes per round average. Potee also fired the best round by a freshman at KU after shooting a 69 in the second round of the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate.

Kansas is coming off a week long break after finishing ninth at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 11-13.

The Jayhawks will begin the spring season at Texas State University’s Claud Jacobs Challenge in Victoria, Texas, Feb. 13 and 14, 2011.
