Kansas Women's Golf to Compete in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas women’s golf willclose out its fall campaign when it travels to Kiawah Island, S.C., to compete in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate Oct. 26-27.

Kansas has not competed in this tournament since the 2003-2004 season, when the Jayhawks finished 11th out of 18 teams.

“We are looking forward to playing at Kiawah,” said KU Head Coach Erin O’Neil. “The goal is to continue to build on our steady play and finish the fall on a positive note.”

This week’s lineup will consist of Meghna Bal, Emily Powers, Grace Thiry, Meghan Gockel and Jennifer Clark.

Bal is coming off a strong performance at NMSU Price’s Give ‘Em Five Intercollegiate where she led the team with her sixth-place finish. Bal’s performance at the tournament was a career-best so far as she fired a low-round of 71 for the second time as a Jayhawk.

Powers broke 70 for the third time in her career as she finished tied for 23rd. Thiry tied for 30th, while Clark tied for 55th. Gockel rounded out the lineup as she finished 90th.

As a team, the Jayhawks tied for seventh place at the tournament.

Powers currently leads the team with a 74.91 average. Thiry currently averages a 77.42, while Bal is at an even 78. Clark and Gockel are at 79.09 and 79.33 respectively.

The Jayhawks will open their spring season in Kiawah Island at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic Feb. 21-23.
