Martinez Leads Kansas in First Day of Jayhawk Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – –

Junior Maria Martinez led the Kansas tennis team in both singles and doubles play at the Jayhawk Invitational at First Serve Tennis Center Friday.

Martinez defeated UMKC’s Eva Dalvai in singles play and paired with senior Kunigunda Dorn to defeat Abilene Christian University in doubles.

Sophomore Alessandra Dzuba also tallied a singles victory, defeating Iowa State’s Liza Wischer in three sets.

“I felt like today was a really good day,” said Martinez. “We all played hard and we are excited to play again tomorrow.”

The Jayhawk Invitational will continue Saturday at 9 a.m. The event is free to the public.
