Khanevskaya Makes Flight Final for Third Time This Season
Oct. 23, 2010
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
For the third time in as many events Kansas tennis player Victoria Khanevskaya will play in the final of a singles flight. Khanevskaya defeated Indiana’s Diana Kyllman 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of the White Draw in day two of the KU Invitational to advance to tomorrow’s final round.
The sophomore has made the final in her respective singles flights in the first KU Invitational as well as Notre Dame’s Eck Classic and has lost only two singles matches in the 2010 fall season.
The rest of the team played out of the consolation draw in the singles portion of the event. Dylan Windom was the only other KU player to win a singles match Saturday, bouncing back from a first set loss against UMKC’s Laura Bouet to take the match 5-7, 7-5, 10-8. The win puts Windom in the Blue Consolation final.
Paulina Los and Kate Goff both dropped their matches in the Grey and Jayhawk Consolation Draws. UMKC’s Gaby Pintos downed Goff 6-4, 6-2. Los nearly broke through to force a third set but in the end fell to Oklahoma’s Tara Eckel 6-2, 7-5.
Los and Windom posted a doubles win for KU, going 8-5 over a team from Armstrong Atlantic. Goff and Khanevskaya also went up against a team from Armstrong Atlantic, but lost 8-3.
